RC-220 & RC-320 Serial Connection Pinout

WARNING: Improper cable wiring may result in damage to the system.

RC-220 Cable

The following details wiring for an RC-220, DB9 to DB9.  See notes for optional power injection on pins 6 and 7.

DigiCart Serial Port Pinout

DigiCart9 Pin D-Sub male SIGNAL RC-2209pin D Sub female
1 GND (RC-220 alternate DC power ground) 1
2 +5 VOLTS  (Not normally used) 2
3 GND (RC-220 alternate DC power ground) 3
4 TX +  (DigiCart Transmitter, wire to RX+) 4
5 TX –  (DigiCart Transmitter, wire to RX-) 5
6 HSK Out (Not normally used)(RC-220 alternate +9 volt DC power) 6
7 HSK In (Not normally used)(RC-220 alternate +9 volt DC power) 7
8 RX +  (DigiCart Receiver, wire to TX+) 8
9 RX  –  (DigiCart Receiver, wire to TX-) 9

The maximum length of the cable is 1200 meters or 3936 feet.  Terminate the Rx+ and Rx- on each end of the cable with 1K resistors to ground if you are running over fifty feet of cable.  If using a power injection cable, it can be no more than 25 feet long, but it can be placed at the end of a longer cable run.

WARNING: Do not apply power to both the rear panel of the RC-220 and the power injector on the cable at the same time.

Pins 6 and 7 are used to inject power into the RC-220 as an alternative to the rear panel power input on the back of the RC-220.  The center pin (+9V) of an inline female coax connector is tied to both pins 6 and 7 at the DigiCart end of the cable in order to minimize voltage drop.

Important: Pins 6 and 7 on DigiCart end of the cable on the actual connector are left unconnected.

The outside of the coax connector connects to ground on both pins 1 and 3, which are carried through from the DigiCart to the RC-220.

RC-320 Cable

For an RC-320 connected to a DigiCart E series system, the following details the DB15 to DB9 connection.
