Opening An Instant Replay For General Repairs.

Applies to:

Instant Replay, Models DR-550, DR-552, DR-554, DR-600

CAUTION:  UNPLUG UNIT FROM LINE VOTAGE PRIOR TO OPENING UNIT.

WARNING:  OPENING THE INSTANT REPLAY EXPOSES THE POWER SUPPLY AND LINE VOLTAGES.    POWER SUPPLIES CONTAINED IN THIS UNIT HAVE BOTH LINE VOLTAGE AND HIGH VOLTAGE.   CONDUCTING TESTING WITH POWER CONNECTED SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL.  SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH MAY OCCUR IF TESTING IS CONDUCTED INCORRECTLY.

Symptom:

Any repair requiring the opening of the Instant Replay product.

Required tools:

  • 5/16 nut driver or socket with an extension and ratchet
  • A flat blade screw diver
  • A #2 and #1 Philips screwdriver (For replacing certain components)

Procedure: 

  1. Remove the 3 rubber feet on the bottom front of the Instant Replay using the flat blade screw driver.
  2. Once the feet have been removed use the 5/16 nut driver or socket with the extension to remove 3 nuts that are inside the exposed feet holes.
  3. With the nuts removed, place the unit on a flat table surface and pull the top sheet metal cover forward.   This will unlock the top cover from the chassis.   CAUTION:  Do not hold the plastic display housing during this process or it may break off.
  4. Lift the top cover up and to the right taking caution not to pull on the cables attached to the main board.
  5. Carefully remove each cable from the main board making note of the position and placement.

Hard Drive Replacement:

  1. To replace the hard drive, removed the ribbon cable and power cable from the drive.
  2. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the 4 screws on the bottom center of the Instant Replay holding the hard drive.
  3. Replace the drive reversing the procedure.

Keyboard Rubber Button Replacement:

  1. Remove all of the screws holding the keyboard PCB to the top panel.
  2. Carefully clean the carbon pads on the keyboard PCB with 99% rubbing alcohol and a cotton swap or soft cloth.  Use caution not to damage the leds or other components.  Do not scrub.
  3. Replace the rubber keypad and reverse the procedure to reinstall.

Display Replacement:

  1. Remove the four screws holding the plastic display housing to the top panel.
  2. Remove the two screws on the back of the display housing and separate the two halves.
  3. Remove the display data cable from the LCD.
  4. Remove the four screws holding the LCD to the plastic housing.
  5. Replace the display and data cable and reverse this procedure to reinstall.
